Step on the Cracks - Fashion Film (Fall 2024)
Evoking the Rococo era of France when noblewomen lived in their own decadent, childish fantasies during a life of leisure and ignorance, this film explores the experience of a young woman seemingly stuck in her own girlhood. She interacts with her domestic environment hedonistically, presenting an image that is ostentatiously feminine and veering towards the grotesque. She becomes a projection of her younger self’s purest expression, one which exists entirely outside the sphere of the male gaze.
Step on the Cracks is a surrealist reliving of girlhood explored through fashion, drawing from the director’s own memories and associations growing up. Featuring designs from Pratt Fashion alumni Shuyan (Jane) Jin, Madison Newcombe, Eiligh Orff, Nyta Brace, and Matthew Stachura, model Isobel Carney brings to life the fanciful, bratty, spoiled character of Genevieve.
